Another ArriLaser to arrive in Hong Kong
 
Heavy Optical has committed with Arri in purchase of an Arri Laser for quality 35mm Film work.
The industry has ask for it, and we listen.
Heavy Optical, the largest and eldest digital film service provider in Hong Kong, has provided to the industry over 30 years of quality film post production service. Servicing most part of Asia, and extending our works to Europe and America.
 
We work with Film productions, post-production and renowned visual effect house to create the best digital film production pipeline, meeting today's Digital Intermediate workflow.
 
Arri Laser ordered will include some of the special features, which will push the quality of digital film work to a higher level, these included:
a. 35mm Internegative film output
b. 35mm film negative work, specially design for CG and Animation master.
c. Work seamlessly with Kodak Cineon Genesis Plus
d. Special HD module, handle 1920 resolution files for full aperture 35mm release

Full HD, FHD

Most of the early HD equipment are not full complied to the 1920x 1080 display.
Full HD will offer true 1920 x 1080 operation and display
The other level we would like to look into is 4:4:4 display of color
HDCam SR 4:4:4 also carried 12 channels of Audio
 
Digital Intermediate 2K
According to the early Kodak Cineon specification, this is based upon 2048 x 1556 for a full-gate 35mm film scan, or as adjust for full screening aperture for 1:2.35 anamorphic display at 1828x 1556. 10 bit log .dpx.cin is commonly use for effective post-production work
 
Ultra HD, UHD
Camera designed to operate higher than HD quality.
Like RED, with her 4096x 2304 is an UHD camera, employ RED code, a Wavelet base 12 bit 12:1 visually lossless compression
Peter Jackson test film has rated RED at 250 ASA at 24fps
A good digital perform to built single camera dual lens Stereoscopic vision work.
 
UHD 8K
7680x 4320 which has to stream 32 million pixels at 24Gbit/sec., 16x resolution of HD, comparable or said to be better than IMAX's 15 perf 70mm film work. Initial standard design to have 22 channels of audio, a NHK research project, this reminded me of a visit made 33 years ago to NHK research center, where I had experiment with prototypes of Plasma and HDTV.

SR 4:4:4, is currently the highest form of HD archiving, now is the standard key production tool in Movie mastering at Digital Magic.

Sony HDCam SR 4:4:4 master is working with the DVS Clipster, DVNR HD 4:4:4, Flame 2007 and Smoke 2007, da Vinci 2KPlus, da Vinci ToolBox2, da Vinci Revival, and our Barco 2K Cinema.

SR 4:4:4 under 1920x1080 is consider to be the best tool for 2K Digital Intermediate Cinema 35mm film output. Better than standard academy 2K which sized at 1828x 1556.

SR's 12 channels audio is the best partner for Digital Cinema mastering

Another Exciting Milestone for Us! 28th October, 2005
Digital Magic's participation in the Maiden Broadcast of HD Digital Signals in Hong Kong

Through the joint efforts of TVB and SMPTE/Hong Kong, the very first HD transmission of MPEG image sequences, with HD content produced by Digital Magic, was aired in Hong Kong yesterday, 28th October, 2005, on special UHF TV Channel 37. The high definition 1920x1080 50i digital reception results were excellent and have surpassed all quality home entertainment benchmarks for decades to come. We are indeed very happy to have taken part and made a contribution in this milestone event.

Also, during this seminar I will make a presentation on Digital Intermediate Service Development and Color Management in Asia.

An Exciting Milestone for Us!                      

Maiden HD public Broadcast demo at IVE in Hong Kong
 

Through the joint efforts of TVB, Digital Magic, and SMPTE/Hong Kong, the very first HD public Broadcast demo  were aired in Hong Kong last Friday afternoon over UHF Channel 37.

The content was screened to a public of 350, with a HD screening by Barco 2K projector over a 20 feet screen, and HD video displayed on to 50 inches Panasonic LCD monitors in IVE's Hall, where the 11th SMPTE seminar taken place.
The high definition contents at 1920x1080 50i were produced by Digital Magic/Hong Kong, digital reception results were excellent and surpassed all quality home entertainment benchmarks for decades to come.
We are most happy to share this milestone success with you and your esteemed organization.

Hong Kong Police Recruitment Film
Award: *New York Festival - Gold World Medal

In addition to its superb editing and pacing, this film also dazzled everyone with its special effects. In a particular, one breathtaking close-up shot of a helicopter sweeping up from out of nowhere and crossing over a tall building amazed the judges. However, in fact, this scene was created completely through quality Digital composting work at Digital Magic.

October 5, Quebec MIM, Multimedia Conference

Percy Fung was invited by the Ministry of Industries and Commerce to present Asia Multi-media Production Scenes, together with Hong Kong SAR Government, and Trade Development Council, we presented Hong Kong as a Hub for International Multi-media Production. Latest HDTV Production development in Hong Kong and China is well discussed. Visit to Manufacturers, and production services in Montreal has suggested that the City is very well related to our vision of future HDTV 24p 1920 x 1080 Universal format production. I can see we will do more work, and keep on purchase hardware / Software that are produced from Quebec.
